Die 90er Jahre waren eine Zeit des Umbruchs und der Veränderung. Inmitten dieser Zeit des Wandels gab es eine besondere Räumstelle in Rheinland-Pfalz. Fast 80 Jahre nach Kriegsende kam es zur notwendigen Räumung durch TAUBER.
»Wir haben hauptsächlich Granaten gefunden – deutsche, französische – und lose Sprengstoffe, die alle ihre eigenen Gefahren mit sich brachten.« (Harald Katthöfer)
Unter der Leitung von Harald Katthöfer, dem Einsatz von Albert Pieper und dem restlichen Team wurde ein komplexer Sanierungsprozess gestartet. Im ersten Schritt wurde ein Zelt errichtet, in dem sich auch eine Sprinkleranlage befand. Das Gelände wurde systematisch abgetragen und jedes Fragment durchsucht.
„Zunächst musste die gesamte Erdoberfläche abgetragen werden und dann wurde das Ganze mit einer Sternsiebanlage durchgesiebt. Da lief der Boden an Magnetabscheidern durch“, erklärt Katthöfer. „Später hatten wir auch eine Mesotronikanlage – dabei wird der metallfreie Boden auf einem Förderband getrennt und der auffällige, aluminiumhaltige Boden kann anschließend mit einem Minensuchgerät untersucht werden“, ergänzt er.
Die Räumung war nicht nur eine technische Herausforderung, sondern auch eine soziale. Was die Arbeit jedoch für den Räumtrupp erträglich machte, war der Teamgeist, der unter den Räumungsarbeiten aufblühte.
»Das war praktisch ein kleines Dorf für uns. Wir haben da zusammengelebt, in einer Gemeinschaft, zusammen gekocht, zusammen Geburtstage und Weihnachten gefeiert.« (Albert Pieper)
Im Jahr 2008 wurde nach 20 Jahren das offizielle Ende der Entmunitionierung und Sanierung bekannt gegeben. Die 13 Hektar große Kernzone um die frühere Munitionsfabrik wurde mit einer Schutzschicht bedeckt und darf nicht mehr genutzt werden.
